Cold Spring

Each time fall rolls around, I develop the need to see some colorful leaves and pretend I live in a small town. So, on a warm Saturday morning in October, we raced through Grand Central to catch the train to Cold Spring and load up on autumn!

We went for a "hike" in beautiful Hudson Highlands State Park. My fear of being lost in the woods forever was alleviated when we stumbled upon a scenic cliff overlooking the Hudson River.

The warm weather allowed us to have brunch (homefries!) on the porch at Hudson Hil's Cafe and ice cream at Moo Moo's Creamery. Main Street is perfect for window shopping and browsing endless antique and gift shops.

Cold Spring is an ideal day trip from NYC. What's your favorite quick getaway?
