lavendar

via
When the barista at Starbucks described the new vanilla spice latte as having an "herbal, lavender taste," I couldn't shove my phone app in his face quick enough to pay. Ahhh, lavender. It may taste like soap to some, but it transports me to Provence (even though I've never been...that's how powerful it is) with its sweet, floral scent. Lavender simple syrup, shortbread, honey, cocktails, cheese...the possibilities are endless!

Urban Pumpkin Patch

The weekend was full of sunshine and farmers markets. I always want to buy more squash than I can carry.
Look at these beauties!

Have a great week!

Pesto

As summer came to an end, we had so much basil leftover in the garden that the only logical thing to do was make lots of beautifully simple pesto. The hardest part is picking, cleaning and tearing off the leaves.

Forks Over Knives

Since reading Eating Animals and every Michael Pollan book, I've become obsessed with learning more about plant-based diets. There are plenty of reasons to be in favor of this lifestyle. It's better for your health and the planet. I've been trying to up my intake of fresh, local produce while decreasing my consumption of processed foods and animal products for the past few years. When you start to introduce more delicious veggies into your meals, there's no room for the junk...well except for chocolate and wine of course.
I recently watched the documentary Forks over Knives and it's a great film to see if your beginning to reevaluate the way you eat.
Well, that's enough of me ranting for now...check out the trailer!
What do you think? Do you think it's a fad or a revolution?

Small gatherings

Kinfolk magazine is a gorgeous publication focusing on the simple pleasures of entertaining. It puts an emphasis on family, friends, and great food instead of the perfect recipe, place cards, and impressing your guests.
Take a look at their website and enjoy the beautiful photography and ideas.

I'm inspired to make more time to share meals with friends this year. Do you enjoy having company over or would you rather head out to a restaurant?

Waffle and Wolf

Stopped by Waffle and Wolf this morning to pick up some breakfast. It's a small shop that sells taco-like waffles stuffed with your favorite toppings. The space is sunny and minimalist and the owners are super friendly and helpful.
We ordered one with cinnamon cream cheese and banana and a second with Nutella and walnuts. I forgot to take a picture of the waffles because I ate mine so fast! Highly recommended place to check out next time you're looking for a quick meal in Williamsburg.
